Hi Friend,

The Power of Pentecost

There is no more powerful force in the universe than the Spirit of God. It has done more to civilize the world than any other gift God has given to man.

This limitless force that has no beginning and no end is beyond human capacity to comprehend. My mind can reason forward to an eternity of existence but I can't conceive of time without a beginning.

Every physical thing has a beginning, yet there was a time when nothing physical existed. Spirit preceded it all. There was a time when the ONLY thing that existed was Spirit so everything around us came into being by the Spirit of God.

This invisible force that defies definition brought the universe into existence from nothing. If I build a house I have to have material to construct it. But the planets including the DNA used to make your body all came from nothing.

No wonder God challenged Job with the question,

"Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?

Tell Me, if you have understanding.

Who determined its measurements?

Surely you know? Or who stretched the line upon it?

To what were its foundations fastened?

Or who laid its cornerstone,

(Job 38:4-6)

It should be obvious that God IS the Holy Spirit that is the mastermind of the universe.

But it isn't only the "structure" of the universe that results from the work of the Spirit. It is the same Spirit that joins with the spirit in man to change a man from a brutal, insensitive war-mongering beast into a thinking, productive and beneficial person. The Spirit is the purifying fire that cleanses the heart of a man. Though it is invisible the evidence is unmistakable.

When God came to earth in physical form men were able to kill His body, but the Spirit resurrected the body to life three days later. Hundreds of Jesus' followers witnessed this "First fruit" of the Spirit.

The wonderful and incredible truth is that the same Spirit was poured out to human beings on the Day of Pentecost 50 days later.

The Holy Spirit is the flame that ignites in the heart of a man to cause him to act for good, a good that otherwise would never be accomplished. It acts on the spirit within a man to cause him to rise above the lethargy of the surrounding culture.

How does one receive the Spirit? When the Apostle Peter was asked that question he responded, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38) It is an absolute GIFT of God that the average man can have access to such a blessing. Yet we are given the promise from God Himself.

We will come together to worship God for His unspeakable gifts and celebrate the blessing of receiving His Spirit on Pentecost, this coming Sunday May 20 at 11:00 AM.

See you for Pentecost!

Until next time,
